Dr. Nikolai A. Behr
Munich communications consultant an tv producer

Born in 1967 in Munich, son of Chris Nowotny, Nikolai A. Behr lives and works in Munich as a television journalist and producer. Even as a small boy, he loved to join his mother on assignments and in the dark room. Behr got his first camera at the age of eight — an Agfa Automatik. Although his subsequent choice of profession has more to do with moving pictures, he remains a keen photographer to this day.

The idea for this book came to him to in the year that Munich celebrated its 850th birthday, and in which his late mother would have turned eighty. After searching through her archives, he revisited all the places that she photographed more than four decades previously. Behr took pictures of the same locations, although not always from the same angle. To complement this selection of photographs, he has included many of the buildings and squares that have sprung up over the past few years.

This pictorial compilation of Munich past and present comes alive through its contrasts, and provides a captivating snapshot of the city’s recent history.
